ON Semiconductor Wins Best Power Supply Device Award for its Industry Leading IGBTs from EEPW in China

The company’s 1,200 volt and 1,350 volt Field Stop II IGBTs honoured as Best Power Supply Devices

 

SHENZHEN, China – May 28, 2014 – ON Semiconductor (Nasdaq: ONNN), driving energy efficient innovations, has won the Best Power Device Award at Electronic Engineering & Product World (EEPW)'s 2013 Power Supply Products Award. Run annually by one of China's leading semiconductor industry media titles, the award program recognizes excellence in power supply components in six different categories.


ON Semiconductor's high performance Field Stop II (FSII) IGBT portfolio expands current ratings and delivers efficient, high-speed switching capabilities for power applications such as uninterrupted power systems (UPS), hot pots, rice cookers and microwaves. The winning devices, the NGTBxxN120IHRWG and NGTBxxN135IHRW, feature optimized switching and reduced conduction losses for induction heating and soft switching applications operating at medium frequencies of 15 kilohertz (kHz)-30 kHz. With excellent ruggedness and superior on-state characteristics at high currents, these devices are optimized based on system requirements to enable higher efficiency and lower system losses.


Further expansion of the FSII IGBT technology includes the NGTBxxN120FL2WG and NGTBxxN135FL2WG family of devices designed specifically for solar inverter, UPS, and inverter welder applications. With improved thermal characteristics, these devices will have an operational junction temperature range of -55°C to +175°C and increase in current ratings up to 100 amperes (A) in TO-247 packages.


ON Semiconductor has already established a reputation for the quality and reliability of its IGBTs, with automotive AEC-Q qualified IGBT’s in production for more than a decade. In 2011, the company started new development work on high-voltage/high-current devices for a range of industrial and consumer marketing applications, which continue to demand high-efficiency solutions. The first full portfolio family of the company’s proprietary Trench Field Stop technology was released in 2012, matching competing technology. The launch of this award-winning FSII IGBT product family in May 2013 reinforced the company's status as a technology leader – a status that has now been recognized by the votes of EEPW readers and the decision of the judging panel.


The annual EEPW Power Supply Products Award program, now in its eleventh year, is open to embedded system suppliers worldwide. The publication presents Best Product and Best Application awards in six product categories. Products are selected from a host of competing products through a combination of online voting and the decision of a judging panel of industry experts appointed by EEPW.
